My name is Joli, and I joined the Kemp Lab in Spring 2026. I am from Houston, Texas, and I spent my formative years in Toronto, which helped shape my global perspective and appreciation for the world around me.

I began my studies at UT in Fall 2025 as a freshman majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. My academic interests are diverse, with a strong passion for coding, energy engineering, and the geosciences. For example, I have used Python to simulate the effects of climate change in geoscience-focused research, exploring computational approaches to environmental change and mitigation. My current work in the Kemp Lab connects these interests with broader efforts to understand how biodiversity and ecological systems respond to global change over time.

Outside of academics, I enjoy sightseeing and have visited several of the United States’ natural landmarks, including Horseshoe Bend, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Crater Lake.
