Hi! My name is Emery, and I joined the Kemp Lab in spring 2025. While I am from the Dallas area, I have spent every summer of my life in Colorado hiking, biking, and kayaking my way through the extreme biodiversity and dwarving mass of the Rockies. That constant outdoors time naturally translated to an interest in a degree in environmental science with a minor in geology. Paleontology was a dream career of mine as a kid (as I'm sure it is for many), but I largely focused on learning about conservation efforts like the Yellowstone Wolf Reintroduction or research on White-nose syndrome in bats leading up to my time in college. An introduction to connecting the two began in my first semester at UT, and my passion for it has only grown since. In the Kemp Lab I have picked fossils, visited museum collections to expand UT's Jamaican vertebrate reference collection, and created 3D models of skeletal elements using CT splices in Dragonfly. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, am an avid hiker (both in Austin and Colorado), run and play basketball, do digital design, volunteer with the Austin Bat Refuge, and beekeep with the Beevo Beekeeping organization on campus!
